Power Banks are comprised of a special battery in a special case with a special circuit to control power flow. They allow you to store electrical energy (deposit it in the bank) and then later use it to charge up to a mobile device (withdraw it from the bank).

What is mAh means in Battery?

The symbol “mAh”—note the capitalization—means “milliampere-hour because International System of Units, “ampere” is always represented with a capital A. “Bigger batteries are labelled in ampere-hours.; 1 Ah = 1000 mAh. A 1000 mAh battery can supply 1000 mA for one hour.

How to Calculate a Battery Life?

To calculate a battery’s life, divide the capacity of the battery by the current required by the object it powers. For example, imagine that you have two batteries for your cell phone, one with a capacity of 1000 mAh and one with a capacity of 2000 mAh and that your phone requires a current of 200 mA to function.

The first battery would power the phone for five hours, as 1000 divided by 200 equals five. But the second battery would power the phone for ten hours., as it has double the capacity of the first. While a larger number indicates battery power, larger mAh batteries may not be better if it is a poor quality battery. It simply means it can store more power.

mAh is calculated by multiplying the amount of time the battery lasts by the amperes of the discharge current. That may sound complicated, but it’s really not. If you have a battery and you don’t know what it’s capacity it is, all you have to do is hook it up to supply a 1000 mA discharge and see how long it lasts. If it lasts an hour, hey, you’ve got a 1000mAh battery. If it lasts 4 and a half hours, well then you’re holding a 4500mAh battery.

Well, the choice of the power bank depends mostly on its capacity, cost and its form factor.

Power bank uses two types of batteries. One is Lithium-ion and other is Lithium-polymer. Lithium-ion batteries are used 18650 cells. The number means 18 mm is a diameter of cell and 65 mm is its length without protection. Hence the power banks which uses Lithium-ion cells are bulky and heavy. Li-polymer is unique in that a microporous electrolyte replaces the traditional porous separator.

Li-polymer offers. slightly higher specific energy and can be made thinner than conventional Li-ion, but the manufacturing cost is higher by 10–30 percent. Whereas Lithium polymer cells are compact and light-weighted. Hence Li-Po power banks are compact and lightweight.
