In the second quarter of 2019 (Q2), smartphone shipments reached to 36.9 million, up from 32.1 million in the previous quarter, according to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

A total of 69.3 million mobile phones were shipped to India in 2Q19, which was up 7.6% over the previous quarter. The India smartphone market grew 9.9% year-on-year (YoY) and 14.8% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). 

In the Third Quarter of 2019 (Q3) India’s smartphone market shipped a record 46.6 million units in the third quarter of 2019, with 26.5% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) and 9.3% year-over-year (YoY) growth. This was driven by multiple online sale festivals. New model launches and price corrections on a few key models by various brands.

Smartphone Share Market in India 2019

In India, out of the five highest-selling smartphones, four are Chinese vendors. Xiaomi retained the top point with a 27.1% ( in Q3) market share comprising 12.6 million shipment units. However, their market share has fallen from 30.6% in Q1 2019. You have seen that report of IDC of Highest selling Smartphones in India.

Xiaomi recorded in highest-ever shipments with which grew 7% (YoY) driven by the good performance of its models in the online segment. Redmi 7A, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Redmi Note 7S were the best performing smartphones for the brand.

Realme has become the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India, selling 15 million handsets in the very first year of its operations and is targeting to double the sales next year, its CEO Madhav Sheth said. Realme, sub-brand of Oppo entered in India in May 2018 and Realme does not allow else to occupy the position in Indian hearts. 

But Apple is eliminated by Chinese Brand, even though not placed at the top 5 Position. But might be considered to be the liked smartphone by Peoples. Apple has been struggling to sell in India over Chinese Vendors as they are giving features at affordable price.

Apple had a 1.2% market share in India at the end of 2018, with sales halving to almost 1.7 million units, according to Counterpoint Technology Market Research. Apple fails to establish a foothold in market share, local production and retail presence in India.

Xiaomi 

Xiaomi, no doubts Xiaomi recorded its highest ever smartphone shipments in a third-quarter with 12.6 million units, growing at 8.5% YoY. the Redmi Note 7 phones of Xiaomi considering the best smartphone till now. the last note series phone note 6 didn’t do very well in the country.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India back in February this year, 2019. it is just five months since the launch and Xiaomi have managed to sell over 5 million (50 lakh) units of the Redmi Note 7 series in India and 15 million(1 crore 50 lakh) units of Redmi note 7 series sold globally as per data report. Xiaomi announced that it has shipped over 100 million smartphones in India in the last five years. 

Xiaomi has managed to sell more than 1 million units of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 in India. And ranked in highest selling Smartphones. Redmi Note 8 series launched a month ago. Xiaomi beats the other brand phones but it is failed. However, It is tough to compete along with realme which came in India in 2018 and Samsung M series smartphones.


When Xiaomi Came in India

Xiaomi released its first smartphone in August 2011 and rapidly gained market share in China to become the country’s largest smartphone company in 2014. At the start of the second quarter of 2018, Xiaomi was the world’s fourth-largest smartphone manufacturer.

According to the report, Xiaomi Mi 3 batches were sold out within 2 minutes of the opening day sale in Singapore, China Manufacturer plans to enter the Indian Market as India ranks the second most populated country after China. So they decide to start a business in our Country. On 9 March 2016, Xiaomi launched its Redmi Note 3 in India.

It was a groundbreaking smartphone at the time in the budget segment. It made record sales on the year, and Xiaomi brand name continued to grow. Xiaomi breaks own the record itself. Mi knocked out the other Vendors, for instance, Micromax, lava, Samsung, Gionee, LG, Sony etc in India. The Redmi 7A and Redmi Note 7 Pro were the highest shipped models in the overall smartphone market. Xiaomi continued to lead in the online channel with a market share of 40.0% in the third quarter of 2019.


Samsung

Samsung was the only non-chinese vendor amongst the top five to fall, dropping 8.5% YoY in 3Q19. But maintain a position in Top 5 not out as like Apple. Samsung sold two million phones in its mid-price segment Galaxy A-series in India in just 40 days starting March. Galaxy A-series phones continue to be available across both online and offline.

The most refreshed Galaxy (Galaxy A10s, A50s etc.) series considered as budget phones price from 10k to 40k. Along with A series, Samsung also has M series Smartphones. But available only on Samsung’s website and Amazon.com’s.

Instead of that Samsung launched M30s. A popular Galaxy M30 successor offering a 6,000mAh battery, which is the biggest yet for a smartphone. In addition to this, AMOLED display, 48MP triple camera setup and a new Exynos 9611 chipset, 4GB + 64GB base model are priced @14,000. Samsung always is on top position in selling Smartphones. In 2019, Samsung touches the second position in selling smartphones in India.

Vivo

Vivo registered a strong YoY growth of 58.7% in 3Q19 on the back of its affordable Y series (Y12, Y91/i) The newly-launched exclusive online Z/U series accounted for more than 20% of its overall shipments. As a result, making vivo the third-largest online vendor with a market share of 8.2% in 3Q19.

Realme

Realme has become the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India, selling 15 million handsets in the very first year. It’s targeting to double the sales next year, its CEO Madhav Sheth said. Realme climbed to the fourth position in 3Q19, as its shipments grew multifold YoY in 3Q19. It is driven by heavy shipments of its affordable C2 model and its newly launched 5 and 3i series. The vendor’s online share was at an all-time high of 26.5% in 3Q19, up from 16.5% in the previous quarter. Realme become the highest sold out the phone in India in 2019.

Oppo slipped to the fifth position in 3Q19, but with a YoY growth of 92.3%. Its A5s was the fifth-highest shipped model in the overall smartphone market. Moreover, OPPO became the second-largest vendor in the fast-growing US300-500 segment on the back of its newly launched Reno 2 series. Its online exclusive K series was not able to find traction due to heavy competition by Xiaomi and realme in that segment. Now its time to find out which smartphones sold out more in 2019.
