In the 39th meeting held, the GST Council headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has hiked the GST rates on Smartphones and their accessories or equipment used in phones from 12% to 18%.

why Smartphones are launching late?

Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung and other mobile phone brands are delayed to launch new smartphones in India. Due to GST rates hikes on Smartphones and their equipment by the Indian government, smartphone brands have to do increase in the price range of smartphones and may less in profit margins.

It is a piece of bad news for Indian People who are planning to buy a phone. Loss of Indian people in every way and smartphones are being launched late as well. 

Manu Jain, MD of Xiaomi India, said the industry “will crumble” from the decision taken by the GST Council on Saturday. He also said India’s smartphone industry has been “struggling with profitability” as the rupee has weakened against the dollar, increasing import costs.

“We request the Honourable Prime Minister and Finance Minister to reconsider this. At least for people who cannot afford to buy expensive phones,” Jain tweeted.

The 6 per cent GST increase will be noxious to the vision of ‘Digital India‘,” said Pankaj Mohindroo, ICEA Chairman. “Consumption will be sidetracked and our domestic consumption target of $80 billion (Rs 6 lakh crore) by 2025 will not be achieved. We will fall short by at least Rs 2 lakh crore,” he said.
